FWC on lookout for Snook Violations

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY

While conducting surveillance at Sebastian Inlet, Officer Curtis Suggs saw a subject catch a snook that appeared to be under the 28-inch minimum requirement. The subject put the snook in the bed of his truck and continued fishing. Officer Suggs conducted a fisheries inspection after the subject finished fishing. The subject first stated he hadn't caught anything, but then admitted to having a 27-inch snook. He was issued a citation for the snook violation and warnings for licensing requirements.

LEE COUNTY

Officer Andrew Brown was on foot patrol in Lovers Key State Park, when he observed two individuals fishing from shore. While Officer Brown watched the subjects throw a cast net, he observed them catch a snook in the net and bury it in the sand. As the individuals prepared to leave the area, they retrieved the buried snook. After Officer Brown conducted a resource inspection, he issued several misdemeanor citations for possession of snook out of season, undersize red drum, spotted sea trout and sheepshead. The subjects were issued a warning for not having a shoreline saltwater fishing license.

Officers Demian McColgin and Brad Bell were conducting resource inspections along the North West Cape Coral spreader canals. While checking bank fisherman near Old Burnt Store Road and Tropicana Parkway they located several individuals in possession of snook during closed season and undersize sheepshead. The individuals were issued several misdemeanor citations for the violations

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY

Officers Albert and Raczek observed two subjects trespassing onto and fishing from a flood control spillway near Greynolds Park. One subject was cited for possession of an undersize snook and undersize mangrove snapper. Both subjects were warned for trespassing and for not having the requisite fishing license.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY

Officers Patterson and Symecko were on land patrol when they encountered subjects in possession of two out-of-season snook, one undersize lobster, and some unregulated fish. Two of the subjects confessed to catching the fish and lobster and were arrested for the violations.
