FWC Commissioners meeting June 9th voted a Bi-coastal approach to Snook season reopening.
- Snook will remain catch and release on the West Coast of Florida and Everglades National Park.
- On the Atlantic coast and inland waters , season will open on Sept. 1, limit one snook per angler per day, with the 28-32 inch slot.Inland waters are those between Miami-Dade County-Monroe county line to the Florida-Georgia state line, including the Kissimmee River and Lake Okeechobee.
The fall season will run Sept. 1 through Dec. 14. The spring snook harvest season will also return only for Atlantic coast anglers from Feb. 1 through May 31.
FWC commissioners heard from stakeholders and FWRI biologists before making the snook management decision. Input included the Poll Results from 604 anglers who voted on this website since May 27th.
Open seasons for snook were temporarily suspended in January 2010 following persistent record cold temperatures statewide that resulted in heavy losses to snook populations. Snook was reopened for a shortened fall season in 2010 on the Atlantic.
